﷽
In the early 2000’s, I started working on an idea of producing a collection of statements of the Prophet, 40 in number ﷺ, along with some commentary, that would speak to the reality of American Muslim life. After teaching this at a winter retreat in Boston at the behest of Imām Suhaib Webb, and a teaching a few session during my tenure at the University of Pennsylvania as the Muslim chaplain, I shelved the project. I have no unpacked this and have chosen to resurrect it as pats of launching our new podcast at Middle Ground. By Allāh’s permission, may 40 American Ḥadīth (الأربعون الأمريكية) be of some benefit in our journey to follow his example, may Allāh bless him and his noble family and companions.
"A'ishah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, was asked by al-Aswad (bin Yazīd al-Nakha’ī) 'What kinds of things did the Prophet ﷺ used to do in his house?' She replied, 'He worked for his family, meaning in the service of his family. However, when it came time for prayer, he went out to pray'." Recorded in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, #676
